Boxpark Shoreditch | The World’s First Popup Mall
Making use of derelict space in Shoreditch, Boxpark is a pop-up mall (the world’s first), built out of shipping containers. Each container being 40ft long with 300sq ft. floor space to display your brand. Brands being of fashion and lifestyle, with galleries and cafés thrown in the mix. Such a simple, yet brilliant concept.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
With Shoreditch as a backdrop, Boxpark suits this industrial, fashion driven location. What I like most about Boxpark is that it doesn’t over shadow the area, but merely blends in. The set up is simple and convenient with free WIFI (how nice).
ASSISTANCE:
I was wondering where each store got these young, good looking and very helpful bunch. London not being very well known for their helpful assistance regarding retail. But each store (box) I went into there was always a friendly smile. Maybe it was the fact that each store was so small that you can’t really be ignored. I’m not sure what it is, but never the less, I was very impressed.
SPACE:
What really stood out for me was the great use of space. The containers stretch over two levels, 40 on the ground floor and 20 on top. There are communal areas to sit down, have something to eat or just admire the art displayed on the top walkway.
MY FAVOURITES:
Each brand did an amazing job of displaying there merchandise in limited space, below are a few of my favourites:
NikeID Studio:
To custom design you own shoe is not a new concept, especially to Nike. But what caught my eye was the simplicity of this store. Everything was clearly thought through, from the seating arrangement to the usability of the computers and the custom shoe design site. It was easy and not intimidating at all, only fun. You can design a shoe in less than 10 minutes with a 2-4 week delivery time. Simple and how cool is this wall?
Urbanears:
Using white as a base with strategically placed mirrors really enhances the space and the store feels uncluttered and clean. The white walls make the beautifully coloured product stand out.
NikeFuel Station:
Nike is trying to change the way we shop. It’s all about involving the customer, educating you and making sure you have a good time while doing so. Nike created this showcase in Boxpark and it is definitely worth a visit. Below are a few cool things you can find in store.

Digital mannequins (motion sensitive mirrors that display film footage of runners wearing key store products)

very cool Lesley, visited there a few weeks back when in London & was most impressed…. a lesson for other cities around the globe, so many positive social&retail aspects.
